Milwaukee is the largest city in the state of Wisconsin and the fifth-largest city in the Midwestern United States. The seat of the eponymous county, it is on Lake Michigan's western shore. Ranked by its estimated 2018 population, Milwaukee was the 31st largest city in the United States. The city's estimated population in 2019 was 590,157. Milwaukee is the main cultural and economic center of the Milwaukee metropolitan area, which had an estimated population of 2,043,904 in the 2014 census estimate. It is also the fourth-most densely populated metropolitan area in the Midwest, surpassed only by Chicago, Minneapolis-St. Paul and Detroit, respectively.Milwaukee is known for several festivals, including the summerfest, which is the largest music festival in the world, and which attracts over one million people every year. Other popular festivals include the Wisconsin State Fair, Winterfest, and Pridefest.The city is also home to several professional sports teams, including the Milwaukee Brewers (baseball), Milwaukee Bucks (basketball), and Milwaukee Admirals (hockey).The weather in Milwaukee is very variable. The summers are hot and humid, with temperatures often reaching into the 90s. The winters are cold, with temperatures often dipping below freezing. The city experiences a fair amount of precipitation throughout the year, with snowfall occurring in the winter months.Downtown Milwaukee is easy to navigate and offers a variety of parking options. Street parking is available throughout the downtown area, and there are also a number of parking garages and lots. Parking meters are in effect Monday through Saturday from 8am to 6pm.
